Adhesives
Adhesives include a variety of products used to assemble different materials.
Two examples of such products are glues and sealants.
Glues
Glues can either be liquid, gelatinous or pasty whereas sealants are pasty.
Glues are composed of binders, a solvent (dissolution phase), extenders and additives. The solvent is a liquid which dissolves or dilutes the binder and it may be synthetic or chemical but it could also be water.
Several types of glue:
- Solvent-based glues: neoprene glue, polyurethane glue, epoxy glue, PVA glue…
- Water-based glues: acrylic glue...
Sealants
Sealants can be used to bond materials (flexible adhesive) but also for sealing purposes. Its composition is similar to that of glues except that the solvent is replaced with a plasticizer which keeps the final product flexible once dried.
Decorative sealants may also contain pigments.
Several categories of sealants:
- Elastic sealants: acrylic sealants, silicone sealants, polyurethane sealants, hybrid sealants
- Plastic sealants: acrylic sealants
ATEX directives
Furthermore, due to our expertise in the field of potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX) we are able to design dispersers in accordance with the standards required for potentially explosive materials such as solvents for example.
Our mixers
Reactors/dispersers
Our SOFRAMIX reactors/dispersers are able to disperse all types of solid extenders in liquids, and so are totally suitable for the manufacturing of adhesives. The vessels of our dispersers can be equipped with heat exchangers and our fully automated Clean In Place (CIP) system which ensures perfect cleanability of the vessel.
